What is the Political Courage Test?

Louisiana Congressional Election 2012 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Exception for Incest, Rape and Health/Life of Mother
Yes Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
No Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?
This is a difficult Question for me. My oldest Daughter spent 3.5 Years in Iraq and is now in Afghanistan. I would rather 'timetable' be replaced with ?Goal?

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing the federal budget. In order to balance the budget,

Yes do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No do you support reducing Medicaid spending?
No do you support reducing Medicare spending?
Yes Is balancing the budget a legislative priority?
Taking into account Inflation, US revenues in 2011 were nearly the same as they were in 1997. We have printed money for the third time and our credit rating has been downgraded to AA-. We must increase revenues and decrease spending. Decrease spending: Even and across the board - exceptions for SS and Medicare, Medicaid. Increase Revenues: I would support a federal sales tax but With the present tax system we need to increase taxes even and across the board. Lowering the Earned Income Tax Credit, Dropping the Payroll Tax Deduction and lowering the Tax breaks on upper income.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Massive amounts of money are spent in campaigns and are unregulated. It is unfair and makes it almost impossible for a no-party affiliated candidate to win. It is not what was intended and Representatives can no longer represent their district but must represent the people who fund their campaigns. A seated Congressman who sits on a committee that regulates an industry should never be allowed to receive any contribution from that industry.
Yes Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Torture/Murder and Murder of a police officer.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support spending on infrastructure projects for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support the temporary extension of unemployment benefits?
No Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
#2 -- I support tax relief for business that expands and hires American workers. First hire workers then get a tax break. I do not support a tax break in hopes they may use the money to hire someone. #5 -- I support the leaving sequestration until we have a solid plan to have a balanced budget -- we cannot continue to print money and have huge deficits.
No Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
Federal Funding per student with no federal intervention. Education is a State issue and should remain a State issue.
No Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
I live in the district most affected by the BP Blowout -- The blowout was Negligence -- they cut corners with a crippled BOP (Blow out Preventer). Following regs that are in place now would have prevented it. Regulators from MMS are few and under funded. I have worked in the offshore Maritime industry for over 30 years. Regulations are adequate but must be followed. The clean-up efforts: The rules, regulations and laws are not being followed and penalties are not enough to detour future negligence.
Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
#1 --- Politics has distorted the facts on this issue. It is no longer science, it is political science. I do however believe we should reduce greenhouse emissions.
Yes Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
Minor and direct -- restrictions on sales to felons and under aged -- full automatic
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
No Should individuals be required to purchase health insurance, as mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
I do not support the ACA. I have not heard of any clear estimate of what it will cost. Our economy can not handle any more large expenditures. I have spoken to many doctors and none have supported it, not because of what they will make but because of the change in Medical procedures and the treatment options. I am also concerned that a second opinion will be required before care can be given, as is the case with workmen compensation causing a delay in treatment.
No Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Yes Do you support allowing illegal immigrants, who were brought to the United States as minors, to pursue citizenship without returning to their country of origin?
No Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration law by state and local police?
No Do you support same-sex marriage?
At this time a cannot support it. I do believe one day it will happen, as happened with interracial marriages. These are issues that need to be addressed: hospital rights, insurance and inheritance.
Yes Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
Yes Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon?
I think we need support from the UN or our allies financially and militarily -- I do not support 'going it alone'.
No Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
I support funding SS and keep it solvent -- I would like to see a federal tax on all Internet sales to fund SS -- Its the only can left that we can still kick down the road.

President's and Congressperson's funding for staff and medical insurance -- including medical co-pay -- they need to understand what Americans go through.
1. Coastal Restoration and Flood Protection in South Louisiana: Paid for by Offshore oil royalties. Early oil exploration has destroyed our wetlands by carving over 10000 miles of canals through them. 2. LA Hwy 1 as Americas Energy Corridor. Hwy 1 is the only road access to this nation's only Deep Water Port that can unload Super Tankers. It is a couple of feet above sea level and is closed for days for small storm surge. 3. Providing Cell Service in times of disaster -- COWs (Cells on Wheels-portable cell sites that can quickly be deployed after storms).
